Misogyny, Religion, quakes, and Facebook

Misogyny in Peruvian Government?

Peru’s Prime Minister Aníbal Torres  criticized the Peruvian anchorwoman Sol Carreño. Torres said Carreño is a bad woman and a bad wife.

Mrs. Carreño is a lawyer, who hosts Cuarto Poder every Sunday evening. Cuarto Poder is an investigative journalism show. It’s produced by America Television Network, in Lima City. The anchorwoman is one of the hardest critics to Peru’s President Pedro Castillo.

Anibal Torres statement reactivated the misogyny accusations in the Peruvian Government. Misogyny is feeling aversion for women, or distrust them for the only fact of being women. It also reactivated the discussion about the productive and reproductive roles of women. The first one refers to the way she evolves in terms of profession, politics, arts, and culture. The second one refers specifically to motherhood.

Feminism in general understands a woman can conciliate both roles in harmony. Even, it believes the woman can choose one over the another . Feminism opines if the woman chooses in freedom, then she can grow and evolve.

This theory came out from the leftist movements worldwide. Peru’s President Pedro Castillo has acted inspired by the left every time. Actually, the left condemns misogyny, sexism, homophobia, racism, xenophobia. In the end, every discrimination way you can figure out.

Peru’s Prime Minister Torres tried to distract this issue by pushing the Congress. He tried to dismiss the corruption accusations against President Castillo. Of course, this move was taken after the aggression against Sol Carreño.

What do you think about a government acting by misogyny? Comment me on the social media. Look for me as @nelsonsullana.

Ruling into Religion

Peruvian Government proclaimed Señor Cautivo of Ayabaca like the master saint of the cultural identity in Peruvian Northern. Independently, the action was assumed like endorsing to Peruvian Catholic Church.

Peruvian episcopal Conference’s President, Monsignor Pedro Barreto asked Peru’s President Pedro Castillo to resign. Barreto also asked Peru’s Congress to call for general elections before the usual deadline. Peruvian Government tried to meet Peruvian episcopal Conference.

Formerly, Monsignor Barreto proposed himself to mediate in the Peruvian political crisis. The left criticized him for getting into political issues.

In the other hand, choosing Señor Cautivo was not random. The image of a hands-tied Christ gathers one of the largest devotion in Peruvian Northern and Ecuadorian Southern. Ayabaca City is here, in Piura Department.

Piura is the third largest electoral market in Peru. We’re talking about a million and a half voters. During the last presidential race, Castillo lost Piura Department.

Señor Cautivo of Ayabaca is a Wood sculpture, possibly made in 1572. The legend says it was made by angels. Its festivity runs along October. Its pilgrimage can raise thousand and thousand of praisserss.

Learn more about it on factortierra.blogspot.com Write Ayabaca in the query box.

Earth is still active

Piura Department was shook again by a quake, last Wednesday overnight, UTC. A 5.2 magnitude event was registered at 0115 UTC. The hypocenter was 18 miles depth. The epicenter was 30 miles to the east of Máncora. It means it happened pretty inland. Máncora felt the quake with 4th intensity.

24 hours before, Peru had a preventive drill in case of disasters. It was the third one organized by Peru’s Institute of Civil Defense. Its purpose was training us to react if the hazard comes at night. People didn’t participate massively.

Máncora, Chira Valley, and Sechura Bay are the areas with much seismicity across Piura, Peru. It’ss based upon reports by Peru’s Geophysical Institute.

55 years of rock in Piura

From playing the alien to the own – from face-to-face to the virtual platform.

The rock is a music genre that came out from a cultural mix in the United States as well as United Kingdom. Such disparate rhythms like the blues, the jazz, or the country were the ingredients those were used amid 20th century for bringing the rock & roll to life, and starting from it, one decade later, to go configuring the rock like a cultural movement that globalized, even before the first Arpanet transmission, the predecessor of Internet,so far as 1969.

The Groove could arrive into Piura in 1967, although only covers were initially played. The experienced was not a brise but a blizzard. “More than 80 bands appeared,” Juan Francisco Facundo Silva, 43, tells me. He is one of the few genre’s advocates, at least in the two largest cities of Piura Department.

“I’m talking you about 1960s and 1970s like Scarface, The Delfines, The Jailers, The stones,” he remembers quoting an investigation by Miguel Almeida, who reached to systematize the movement’s beginning in Piura, in a over-30-page essay, just in case somebody wishes to go in-depth.

From the cover to the streaming

When the shocking 1980s ended, the Piura-based bands left to play borrowed themes and they dedicated to create their own ones. “Now,in 1990s, there is a milestone – for example, bands what made their own music like Libre and Diáfano, and the 2K already came in much later with bands like The Shokekoks, 1900,that are still struggling, and there were more,” Facundo goes on.

That time, almost every province’s capital city had, at least, one formation dedicated to the rock, like The Sepultureros, in Ayabaca City, that started to play circa 1995. It also started the division into sub-genres with so much diverse influences like the ska or the punk. The to pogue verb (dancing collectively by a friendly push) began to be part of the youth’s vocabulary of Piura.

Since 2010 up to now, there are new bands and new challenges to compete in a world what seems to leave step by step behind the classic media like the vinil (although it resists to die), the compact cassette (that already have disappear almost at all), the compact disc (that survives hard-working), and delivers up to the casting at the virtual cloud through the streaming, migration accelerated  after the Covid-19 pandemic

, that forced to close the public places for one entire year.

Facundo himself had to go through the FM-broadcasting until creating his own Facebook page, Facundo Rock, that dedicates long editions to present themes, groups, and analyzing the rock frame with interactions inside and outside Peru, inclusive. Some users follow him from furthest sites like Australia.

Self-managed movement

“Nowadays, the problem is there’s no support by regional governments,”  the presenter criticizes. “There are places that are closed like Piura Municipal Theater, Manuel Vegas Castillo Theater, also the Acoustic Shell (of Miguel Cortés Children Park] that requires to fix for cultural & sports events.”

After 55 years the first rock band played in Piura, even the district’s capital cities have theaters or stages especially built for  shows. In other words, there is much offer and the demand seems not to have decreased despite the urban genre looks like to have drowned it worldwide.

“Mostly, who  dedicate to make events or sessions are the independent people who like the rock – the bands themselves also self-manage but they are few,” Facundo explains.

The independent funding model  with private facilities is based upon the owner gains from sales of food and drinks, the producer gains from the box office. If the show is made for free and outdoors, like Facundo made in Sullana, October 15th (to celebrate  the  Facundo Rock’s 2nd anniversary), the public support basically consists in allowing the use of the place (in this case, the Convention Center’s amphitheater). The rest is gotten through sponsorship.

What is clear, in fact, is that amid this half-a-century of rock in Piura, the teenagers and youth of that time are this generation’s grandparents. And, very despite the cultural, technological  evolution, they have eased the seed follows growing, giving fruits.

The challenge for the rock in Piura is understanding that, not quitting to be a relatively marked local place, today has better chances than 55 years ago for becoming global. There’s talent – let’s see how much it’s able to shine.

Shampoo, exportation, and quakes

If you like mango, Peru is up to export it, and this land doesn’t stop to shake.

Don’t lose your head

Last Tuesday 25th, many spray shampoo brands were taken out of the market. Unilever took out Dove, Suave, and Tiggy, among others.

The cause is benzine. This is a petroleum-derivate capable to give cancer. The lot was made in October 2021. It was delivered to retailers across the US. The information came out from the Food and Drugs Administration, the FDA.

According to CNN, benzine can cause cancer to humans. The ways to enter our bodies are by breathing it, through the mouth, and through the skin. The chemical can cause leukemia and blood cancer.

FDA recommended the consumers not to use spray dry shampoo. If you live in the US, go to unileverrecall.com for further information. We ignore if the recommendation reaches other countries. Follow me as @nelsonsullana for updates.

It’s mango time

Here in Piura Department, the mango season is already started. The Mango exporters Association, or APEM as in Spanish, announced the international sales may reach until 285,000 tons. To make a comparison, the last mango season, Peru sold almost 328,000 tons. This is 73,000 tons more than the estimation for this season.

Mango season officially begins in September, ends in March. Peru sold 447 million dollars the last mango season, according to freshfruit.pe. The stats include fresh mango, cold mango, and processed mango. According to freshfruit, it was a significant amount, but not enough.

The oficial numbers are more conservative for the last mango season. Peru’s Ministry of agrarian Development and Irrigation reported over 240,000 tons. This is 45,000 tons les than the estimation for actual mango season.

Here in Piura Department, the main mango grower is San Lorenzo Valley. This is about 30 miles away my actual location. I’m talking about the famous Tambograndé District. San Lorenzo Valley has been capable to grow until 330,000 tons during the best mango seasons.

Across Peru, there are 30,000 hectares growing mango. This is less than the decime part of Rhode Island State. There are 14,000 mango growers in Peru. Some of them told me, they expected the peak of the season happened this October. There are no actual numbers yet.

The main mango markets are the US, Europe, and Japan recently. Tell me how much you pay for  just one mango. Meanwhile, here in Piura, we are already enjoying this tasty fruit. Learn more about: go to factortierra.blogspot.com Write mango in the query box.

The land continues shaking

Last Tuesday 25th night, Peruvian time, a 4.7 magnitude quake broke out. The epicenter was  just 7 miles to the west of Sullana Downtown. The hypocenter was 35 miles depth. On Saturday 29th, a 4.1 magnitude quake struck 15 miles to the west of Sullana Downtown. The hypocenter was 18 miles depth. Both ones were weaker  than the 6.1 magnitude we experienced last October 5th.

But at Peruvian Southern, the land doesn’t stop to move. Íca Department, located just to the south of Lima Department, felt until 12 quakes along Friday 28th. Peru’s Geophysical Institute explained the quakes here were caused by the Nazca Plate. It is  embedding under the South American Plate.

Quakes cannot be forecast. But, if you live in a seismic zone, you must be ready:

  1. Join the prevention drills.
  2. Have your emergency kit.
  3. Check the buildings where you live, work, amuse, pray… everywhere, in the end.
  4. Follow the official instructions.
  5. And over all, trust in official sources. Remember that not all we have on the social media is true.
  6. Learn to keep calm.
  7. And if a quake breaks out right now, remember the Three Golden Mexican Rules: no running,  nno pushing, no screaming.

warned before the quake

On October 5th, 2020, at 4:26 EST (0826 GMT), A 6.1 and VI intensity quake mainly shook Provinces of Sullana and Paita. The epicenter was located in the same place where, on July 30th, 2021, an event with similar magnitude and intensity shocked the whole Piura Department.

Many have stories about what happened after the quake, but on this LiveConnection, I save three tales of friends, partners, and followers who had very weird episodes just a moment before the slam, or even previous days.

In Chulucanas city, ChulucanasGym’s publisher Jhon Gómez heard noise at the street, he thought it had awakening, he got dressed to start the day, but when he checked out his cellphone, he realized it was 3:59 am EST. . So, he returned to the bed. When he began to fall asleep, the noise announcing the quake broke out.

Almost the same time, Carlos Chávez’s dog, a Sullana City-based colleague of mine, began to bark a bit out of itself. Carlos thought his pet had detected something strange, but when he took a look, he found nothing. When he was to restart his rest in his bedroom, the dog began to pull him from his pants hose asking him not to go into.

But maybe the most freaky thing was the feeling that Orlando Páez, in Piura City, had several days before. The idea of “it’s gonna shake” came recurrently into his head.

I tell you all the details on this video. Have you ever had a similar experience with this quake or others? Tell me here, or on my Facebook and Twitter accounts.

For the people who follow the FACTORTIERRA blog, must know we premiered an interesting story about Huancabamba City. It’s located between two branches of the Andean Range, about 4 degrees south latitude. But it’s not an actual story. It’s a story that comes from 1874. That year, the Italian scientist Antonio Raimondi published his book about Peru. It was a very long-term play. Get the full story here.

Raimondi arrived into Peru in 1850. At least here, he’s considered as one of the most important promoters of Natural Sciences in our country.

The story I produced has to do about a geologic highlight. Huancabamba City is built over a fault. And its effects can be seen up to today. As I tell in the story, the first time I realized about the fault was in 2000. My friend Ciro La Madrid lived in the first block of Huascar Street. It’s right one block away Huancabamba Main Square.

The fault runs just in front of his houses’s door. Ciro, his wife Sandra Guerrero, and his kids don’t live right there anymore. However he was the person who confirmed on the field what I had read in the books. Actually, Ciro was the first friend I made there.

As I also tell in the story, the first time I traveled to Huancabamba was in November 1995. It was a 9-hour journey that time. From this location, Huancabamba Main Square is 260 kilometers or 150 miles.

But I didn’t get there by tourism. I went as a researcher. When I studied Radio at Piura University, our professor assigned us to list all the radio stations  as possible across Piura Department. My work team had to research in Paita, Morropon, and Huancabamba Provinces.

We were Isela Arbulu, Susety Suing, and Veronica Malca, if my memory is good.

Paita is a coastal province, so the four went to it, we scanned the entire city. Morropon was our next target, so the four could cover its capital city, Chulucanas. The problem was Huancabamba.

The females didn’t want to go. So,they assigned me to do it. While they were covering Chulucanas, I was covering Huancabamba.

I knew that city as well as nearby Sondor. I was 19 years old.

My first surprise was both towns had short wave radio stations. In other episode, I’m gonna tell you about the fascinant SW world. At the moment, I’ll just say that before Internet, and amid the satellite era, there were radios broadcasting worldwide at low cost.

For that time, I learned about the Huancabamba Fault because the books I showed you the last episode. I wanted to know where it was. It was one of my questions to my friend Ciro that time.

He had no answer. Five years later, the fault was right in front of the house he lived. His parents house, by the way.

Since that time, I was travelling recurrently to Huancabamba, whether tourism or to cover a story. So I may say my connection with Huancabamba is so strong.

Curious fact: Sullana Province was created in 1911 because the advocacy of a congressman named Benjamin Huaman de los Heros. The issue here is Mr Huaman was not from Sullana but Huancabamba. As you know sullana is the province where is Sullana, the city from I webcast this to you.

Other geographic relevant. Chira River has three main tributaries.

Catamayo from Ecuador, Chipillico from sapillica, and Quiroz from Ayabaca and Huancabamba. Actually its further nascent is Laguna Negra in el Carmen de la Frontera, part of Huancabamba Province. And Chira River runs amid Sullana Province, my province.

So Sullana and Huancabamba are pretty connected, anyway. If you want to explore all that connection, go to factortierra.blogspot.com

Write Huancabamba Province in the query box. You also can follow #ComeToHuancabamba on Twitter for more information.

Just to close the Huancabamba stuff, for the story you can find on FACTORTIERRA, there were many people contributing. From Luis Correa, our co executive producer, to Arabella Carrasco, who helped me with the photo production. Arabella is from Huancabamba, actually. Also my friend Ciro is featured.

At least in Spanish, according to LinkedIn, the story was read in Piura, Chiclayo, and Lima, here in Peru. But also in Quito, Ecuador, and Barcelona, Spain. Thanks you all for the preference.

But still in Spanish, Radio Centinela transcript the text, share it on his Facebook page. I noticed people gave likes and shared three times. I also shared it on my Facebook account, @nelsonsullana. For the people who want to read the story in Spanish, go to eltiempo.pe

Oh, thanks angelo Basselli, in Lima City, who red the story and told me a beautiful related story. As he tell me more, I promise I’ll tell you more.

Finally, two tips for you.

On Monday, September 19th, La Palma Island is marking one year after a new volcano broke out at Cumbré Vieja Ridge. I never was in Canary Islands but I cover the full crisis.

If you want to get the full story, go to factortierra.blogspot.com. You can also follow @factortierra on Twitter. I don’t know what the local people is going to do, but maybe I’ll dedicate my full next episode to them. Let me know if you wish to.

And, from a volcanic land to another volcanic land. Mario Kanashiro is in Nagoya, Japan. He’s a fitness dance trainer. But he also is doing manga and animé as a hobby. We have the story in exclusive. Go to chulucanasgym.blogspot.com

. Follow it on Twitter as @chulucanasgym. It’s the top story right now.

Journalism is the job consisting in searching the reality for explaining it to you. Our goal is you have good information to take better decisions. That’s the theory.

It’s true that many times, commercial interests made the journalism to turn a merchandise instead of a service. Inclusive, journalists use to forget the show-business is an issue to cover, not a state to be into. That depends on two crucial aspects. First, we as journalists have to stand strong and defend our real purpose in the society. Second, the public has to understand the facts are more important than the gossip or the rumors. Both depends on education.

That’s why, this week, my colleague and best friend Jorge Luis Otero started in Talara City, here in Piura Department, a project with high-school students. It’s a Journalism worshop. What he wants to reach is the students to improve their communication skills. That means speaking good, writing good, explaining good.

I learned about that project because Jorge Luis asked me for sending the students a greeting on video. The idea looked me like very good, but I realize the teenagers love surprises. So, I told Jorge Luis to do a little drill in exchange.

I performed a little newscast in the same way I webcast my newscasts in Spanish to my broad audience. But this one should be only addressed to that classroom. And we did it so.

By using a Zoom connection, I performed a newscast as usual that ended ina little motivational speech. After that experience, Jorge Luis called me to thank, and to tell me that the drill wondered the students because it gave them a first approach about how we manage the news in oder to spread them to the people.

Not only with journalism, but I think it would be great if the professions and jobs look for ways to get close the school or high-school students. Why? Because we eestimulate vocations.

Many ttimes, teenagers don’t know what to do about their lives, or maybe they are following a flow or the pressure of their parents. But what do they want to do and to be?

We, who are working in what we love, may be the conduits to teach those teenagers. Obviously, we need teachers who understand how to make that match.

The school in actual times must not be encloistered into its walls – it has to expand to the community, and the community has to be open to serve as mentors. This topic has many things to talk, but let’s start up on that idea. Is your school or high-school asking for that kind of connection? Are you able to take that chance and entering the classrooms? Let’s talk about.

There are many little things we can do at home to save money and care the planet. One of them is checking out how we are using the water. This precious resource allows life in most cases. The problem is that’s not infinite.

Even when ¾ parts of our planet are basically water, especially if you live around the Pacific Ocean, the actual fact is that the amount is becoming shorter for almost 8 billion people living in the planet.

For years, different people around the globe have been advocating for a rational use of water. Maybe you can protect the rivers, lakes, or the sea. But, can we do anything in a smaller place like our home?

In 2005, FACTORTIERRA produced an English-content version website called factortierra2, especially created to serve with original contents to audiences in the United States and Europe. One of our topics was covering environmental issues across Piura Department especially at the highlands where a mining project is still proposed – Rio Blanco.

As we working on that, once upon a day we received an intriguing e-mail from a female from North Atlanta, GA. She said she was a high-school student, she was interested in having information about water saving in developing countries like Peru. After interchanging data and impressions, we decided to join the campaign in North Atlanta and Peru, and focusing it in one simple action as turning off the faucet.

Download the sign the students created to advocate on the water saving.

The hidden business between some robots and a drug trafficker

Four million years ago, somewhere in the universe which name I don’t know because they never said where, there was a highly-technified planet called Cybertron that was populated by two contending races of robots. They were called autobots and decepticons. Whom may I compare them with? The truth is just saying the first ones were the good and the others were sons of a high-tech bitch.

Their planet’s sources of energy were already dying and they faced a microchips starvation that whether they solved like homeless, whether taking their stuff and looking for somewhere in the space where they could flourish and survive. With the few resources they got, the autobots chose the B-plan. They lifted up their ship, them aboard.

The decepticons, that lived cloning everything the autobots did, were in chase mode. When they reached, they badly boarded the vehicle. Amid the struggle, they approached too much to Earth’s gravity that the ships lost control and crashed down in different points of the planet. The autobots one went to the base of a volcano called Saint Hilary, actual Oregon. Don’t seek it on Wikipedia – it doesn’t exist.

In 1984, Saint Hilary awoke and activated the circuits of the spacecraft turned into a fossile. A surveyor scanned the planet, that was not that hostile world they have crashed down but something primitively technified. To make you short the tale, the decepticons and the autobots were repaired and both concentrated in accumulating energy to return to Cybertron. The problem is while the second ones waited for their turn, the first ones shot lasers to everything meaning an obstacle.

What’s the love for Tawantinsuyo?

Meanwhile, the decepticons learned that in actual Peru, the Incas had a kind of energetic conduit that allowed them to take advantage on the energy of Earth’s core, over what they built a pyramid-shape temple, and the robots decided to catch the resource, terrifying the surrounding locals, apparently Cusco-natives.

After saying all this, and look that my merit is making a running-over brief of the first nine episodes of Transformers 1st generation, I accredit that the beloved robots-in-disguise already have visited us, at the moment of posting this, 37 years ago, and we watched it on TV around the globe.

Although the cartoon series producers (with Marvel Productions and Sunbow Productions) don’t have any relation to the ones who, up to date, are rolling a movie of that franchise (with ParamountPictures), what I feel coincidental is they have chosen Cusco. Yes, I understand because of enigmas, untold stories (the cyberspace’s gossips say it would be based upon Tonapa or Tonupa myth), the impressing Inca architecture, and the beautiful landscapes of Urubamba River’s Sacred Valley.

It’s not the first time that Hollywood put an eye to this place. Since 1954 (Paramount Pictures, coincidentally) to nowadays, the trials between successful and frustrated (like a james Bond movie), national and foreigner, are counting for almost a hundred.

Like ever never before in the Peruvian history of the motion picture, two features from two American corporations that are competitors have been rolling at the same time, in the same place, and with big budgets.

The other one is the successful NBCUniversal Telemundo’s series La Reina del Sur (Queen of the South) that from a biographic novel became a fiction highlighting Mexicanactress Kate del Castillo, telling the adventures of drug-trafficker Teresa Mendoza, who really exists, but amid a kind of enlarged parallel universe.

Peacock + Artesonraju = blockbuster

Don’t stop just on the factsheet. Transformers – The rise of beasts and La Reina del Sur were not only rolled in Cusco. The first one did in Tarapoto, San Martin, and it was almost to implement a location in El Ñuro, right here in Los Organos,Piura. The second one,as much as we know, put upside down Lima Downtown.

But it wasn’t about the producers arrived, set up their cameras, let the director screams action, and what pretty actors and actresses perform. Only in Cusco, Paramount and Telemundo left about US$ 37,000 for filming rights and the physical installation of the places chosen as locations, what surely has activated the local economy.

And that’s what we know about Cusco. We don’t have yet the fact of how much Paramount left to Municipality of San Martin Province or how much Telemundo left to Municipality of Metropolitan Lima. It shouldn’t be a secret – it’s public information.

The cost and the benefit of filming in Peru

Peru is not a common destination for scouting film-&-TV locations but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t have them. In fact, like anywhere in the worlc, my country has houses, estates, streets, cities, and especially natural places you should consider as the background of the shots (even for photography) if you are planning a feature for international audiences.

Let’s review Peru’s potentials for locations. Maybe, it’s the country with most diversity in a territory similar in size to California State. We don’t have fiords and tepuys but the amount of other imaginable landscapes is overwhelming. Highlands and the Amazon Basin were also loved by Hollywood and Europe. And the coastal strip has a complex landscape mixing desert and valleys to discover. Add the beaches.

Piura Department is quite bigger than Maryland State, going from sea level(even under sea level) to some summit over 12,800 feet altitude. If I’m not wrong in numbers, we join 70% of Peru’s biodiversity, what also means a diversity of landscapes except snow-covered mountains. Check this out.

Of course that if you are interested in producing anything in Peru, you have to get some reliable connections allowing to understand with local authorities, officials and homeowners/real estate brokers in order to do a favorable negotiation once you have scouted the possible locations. The good news for you is like Peru is an almost rookie in locations management, the prices you can get here may result most competitive like anywhere around the world, especially the destinations you are accostummed to take for this purpose.

Add to this, that Piura in particular has three schools of social communication and many undergraduates and graduates are making motion pictures. Plus, there’s a school of fine arts with hundreds of junior and senior plastic artists who can work with your art director advising and making your sets.

For sure, there are other people and companies those can supply different products and services, since transportation to rights & clearances, so you also can find out great local crews in constant training, some of them awarded nationwide and worldwide. Even, some of them are bilingual.

About the places, major cities have a mixed architetonical style, but médium and small ones own the typical Latin American town skyline. But going out the cities, you can take deserts, valleys, rivers, forested and non-forested hills, mountains close to the sea, highlands, cliffs, archaeological rests, sea, islands. What are you thinking of?  Since 1956, Piura has been considered by Hollywood for locations, for example Cabo Blanco Beach.

You can contact me for further information at nelsonpc.com@gmail.com (my personal e-mail), or chat on live with me on my Facebook and Twitter accounts. And if you’re not looking for a location but you are interested in do some tourism at an unusual destination, but plenty of Nature, you should checkthis out.

Terrorism is ever terrorism – no matter when and where

What 9/11 badly tought to the world is that terrorism is terrorism everywhere no matter wwhat motivation ignites it. By definition, it’s catching the power looking for the people to feel afraid living in freedom and fighting to conserve it as a way to the progress, the tranquility, and the peace.

In the same way, for many countries around the world where this issue has been not usual, the event made them to call terrorist to the one who is terrorist, although like the Mexican (but Miami-based) journalist Jorge Ramos, with Univisión Network, notices, it also made us to call  terrorist to the one who just thinks different than us.

My memories about that Tuesday morning are currently some blurring, but I remember I was just starting the work day in Malingas, a rural village in Piura Department, Peru, where I worked producing an educational radio show. I got the headline on my cellphone like many others across my country.

For the ones who had that news alert by SMS, then running to the TV screens and seeing live-broadcast how the large flames came out ffrom the gap that two planes caused at the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City brought us two sensations – consternation and anxiety.

9/11/01: The towers are hit - YouTube

Why did this story connect closely to the most Peruvian audience? The simple answer is because we already passed it through. Between 1980 and 1997, terrorists groups as Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path) and Movimiento Revolucionario Túpac Amaru (Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement or MRTA as its initials in Spanish) kidnapped, killed, set up bombs, destroyed public and private property.

They said they fought for our freedom, for releasing us from what they say imperialism (the American influence, actually), but ever using violence, ever blaming who thinks different, ever threatening who set them in controversy. The agenda was clearly taking the power anyway.

An, in this point, it’s necessary to remark that a terrorist is not mandatorily that man or woman who wears a military outfit. He or she can quietly wear like some of us, or even wearing a top designer suit. He or she can come from the left, the middle, or the right – terrorism doesn’t know of ideologies. He or she wants to control us in the most insane way you ever can imagine.

It’s relatively easy to forge loyalties when you force violently someone to do what you say. Acting by fear is not acting in freedom, indeed. So, if simple impositions are not enough, the agressions are going to scale. And if nothing works, the best for them will be to vanish you.

After the 9/11, something rare happened to the world. Instead to use the milestone like a pairtaking to build a ffairest world in liberty and respect, we are confronting much than we can imagine. The polarization in all senses is the measure of our days. And that is a gain for the real terrorists.

They try to highlight the feelings of one of the parts by pitching the idea they are down, powerless, so the resentment is created, and a train of actions fueled by the hate and a manipulated need to reinvindication is the next. And if it allows to catch the power, the better, but to live in justice? No. The experiences across the planet don’t prove that.

All the regimes that could take up following that method ultimately made the leaders a kind of little court with so many priviledges, the same they criticized the previous administrations, while the rest of people live submitted, poor, without options to be what they want to be.

Otherwise, if something has become clear after 9/11 is that terrorism is a global issue, not the one focused in por or developing countries –even the U.S. had domestic terrorism issues since 1990s until the recent presidential race—so the combat against demands unity. There are some trials and collaborative networks for intelligence and enforcement, but not all the points of view are aligned because the origin of every terrorist crusade has their own local particularities.  Then, a world recipe working as a formula is not ever the best way to solve it.

It’s possible we don’t see the lessons of 9/11 experience with clarity yet. But today that we are commemorating 20 years of other event in the recent history that shook the word, it’s a good time to think about. How much our political, social, economic comfort zone come to be too important that we can’t see around and understand that we can live as we want to live but considering the rest has the same right, that we can help and learn each other. We can be community not quitting our individuality – they are complementary dimensions. We are still on time to make the step for being a better world without violence. We can. Let’s do it.
