Misogyny, Religion, quakes, and Facebook

Misogyny in Peruvian Government?

Peru’s Prime Minister Aníbal Torres  criticized the Peruvian anchorwoman Sol Carreño. Torres said Carreño is a bad woman and a bad wife.

Mrs. Carreño is a lawyer, who hosts Cuarto Poder every Sunday evening. Cuarto Poder is an investigative journalism show. It’s produced by America Television Network, in Lima City. The anchorwoman is one of the hardest critics to Peru’s President Pedro Castillo.

Anibal Torres statement reactivated the misogyny accusations in the Peruvian Government. Misogyny is feeling aversion for women, or distrust them for the only fact of being women. It also reactivated the discussion about the productive and reproductive roles of women. The first one refers to the way she evolves in terms of profession, politics, arts, and culture. The second one refers specifically to motherhood.

Feminism in general understands a woman can conciliate both roles in harmony. Even, it believes the woman can choose one over the another . Feminism opines if the woman chooses in freedom, then she can grow and evolve.

This theory came out from the leftist movements worldwide. Peru’s President Pedro Castillo has acted inspired by the left every time. Actually, the left condemns misogyny, sexism, homophobia, racism, xenophobia. In the end, every discrimination way you can figure out.

Peru’s Prime Minister Torres tried to distract this issue by pushing the Congress. He tried to dismiss the corruption accusations against President Castillo. Of course, this move was taken after the aggression against Sol Carreño.

What do you think about a government acting by misogyny? Comment me on the social media. Look for me as @nelsonsullana.

Ruling into Religion

Peruvian Government proclaimed Señor Cautivo of Ayabaca like the master saint of the cultural identity in Peruvian Northern. Independently, the action was assumed like endorsing to Peruvian Catholic Church.

Peruvian episcopal Conference’s President, Monsignor Pedro Barreto asked Peru’s President Pedro Castillo to resign. Barreto also asked Peru’s Congress to call for general elections before the usual deadline. Peruvian Government tried to meet Peruvian episcopal Conference.

Formerly, Monsignor Barreto proposed himself to mediate in the Peruvian political crisis. The left criticized him for getting into political issues.

In the other hand, choosing Señor Cautivo was not random. The image of a hands-tied Christ gathers one of the largest devotion in Peruvian Northern and Ecuadorian Southern. Ayabaca City is here, in Piura Department.

Piura is the third largest electoral market in Peru. We’re talking about a million and a half voters. During the last presidential race, Castillo lost Piura Department.

Señor Cautivo of Ayabaca is a Wood sculpture, possibly made in 1572. The legend says it was made by angels. Its festivity runs along October. Its pilgrimage can raise thousand and thousand of praisserss.

Earth is still active

Piura Department was shook again by a quake, last Wednesday overnight, UTC. A 5.2 magnitude event was registered at 0115 UTC. The hypocenter was 18 miles depth. The epicenter was 30 miles to the east of Máncora. It means it happened pretty inland. Máncora felt the quake with 4th intensity.

24 hours before, Peru had a preventive drill in case of disasters. It was the third one organized by Peru’s Institute of Civil Defense. Its purpose was training us to react if the hazard comes at night. People didn’t participate massively.

Máncora, Chira Valley, and Sechura Bay are the areas with much seismicity across Piura, Peru. It’ss based upon reports by Peru’s Geophysical Institute.

Shampoo, exportation, and quakes

If you like mango, Peru is up to export it, and this land doesn’t stop to shake.

Don’t lose your head

Last Tuesday 25th, many spray shampoo brands were taken out of the market. Unilever took out Dove, Suave, and Tiggy, among others.

The cause is benzine. This is a petroleum-derivate capable to give cancer. The lot was made in October 2021. It was delivered to retailers across the US. The information came out from the Food and Drugs Administration, the FDA.

According to CNN, benzine can cause cancer to humans. The ways to enter our bodies are by breathing it, through the mouth, and through the skin. The chemical can cause leukemia and blood cancer.

FDA recommended the consumers not to use spray dry shampoo. If you live in the US, go to unileverrecall.com for further information. We ignore if the recommendation reaches other countries. Follow me as @nelsonsullana for updates.

It’s mango time

Here in Piura Department, the mango season is already started. The Mango exporters Association, or APEM as in Spanish, announced the international sales may reach until 285,000 tons. To make a comparison, the last mango season, Peru sold almost 328,000 tons. This is 73,000 tons more than the estimation for this season.

Mango season officially begins in September, ends in March. Peru sold 447 million dollars the last mango season, according to freshfruit.pe. The stats include fresh mango, cold mango, and processed mango. According to freshfruit, it was a significant amount, but not enough.

The oficial numbers are more conservative for the last mango season. Peru’s Ministry of agrarian Development and Irrigation reported over 240,000 tons. This is 45,000 tons les than the estimation for actual mango season.

Here in Piura Department, the main mango grower is San Lorenzo Valley. This is about 30 miles away my actual location. I’m talking about the famous Tambograndé District. San Lorenzo Valley has been capable to grow until 330,000 tons during the best mango seasons.

Across Peru, there are 30,000 hectares growing mango. This is less than the decime part of Rhode Island State. There are 14,000 mango growers in Peru. Some of them told me, they expected the peak of the season happened this October. There are no actual numbers yet.

The main mango markets are the US, Europe, and Japan recently. Tell me how much you pay for  just one mango. Meanwhile, here in Piura, we are already enjoying this tasty fruit. Learn more about: go to factortierra.blogspot.com Write mango in the query box.

The land continues shaking

Last Tuesday 25th night, Peruvian time, a 4.7 magnitude quake broke out. The epicenter was  just 7 miles to the west of Sullana Downtown. The hypocenter was 35 miles depth. On Saturday 29th, a 4.1 magnitude quake struck 15 miles to the west of Sullana Downtown. The hypocenter was 18 miles depth. Both ones were weaker  than the 6.1 magnitude we experienced last October 5th.

But at Peruvian Southern, the land doesn’t stop to move. Íca Department, located just to the south of Lima Department, felt until 12 quakes along Friday 28th. Peru’s Geophysical Institute explained the quakes here were caused by the Nazca Plate. It is  embedding under the South American Plate.

Quakes cannot be forecast. But, if you live in a seismic zone, you must be ready:

  1. Join the prevention drills.
  2. Have your emergency kit.
  3. Check the buildings where you live, work, amuse, pray… everywhere, in the end.
  4. Follow the official instructions.
  5. And over all, trust in official sources. Remember that not all we have on the social media is true.
  6. Learn to keep calm.
  7. And if a quake breaks out right now, remember the Three Golden Mexican Rules: no running,  nno pushing, no screaming.

#LiveConnection september 16th, 2022

For the people who follow the FACTORTIERRA blog, must know we premiered an interesting story about Huancabamba City. It’s located between two branches of the Andean Range, about 4 degrees south latitude. But it’s not an actual story. It’s a story that comes from 1874. That year, the Italian scientist Antonio Raimondi published his book about Peru. It was a very long-term play. Get the full story here.

Raimondi arrived into Peru in 1850. At least here, he’s considered as one of the most important promoters of Natural Sciences in our country.

The story I produced has to do about a geologic highlight. Huancabamba City is built over a fault. And its effects can be seen up to today. As I tell in the story, the first time I realized about the fault was in 2000. My friend Ciro La Madrid lived in the first block of Huascar Street. It’s right one block away Huancabamba Main Square.

The fault runs just in front of his houses’s door. Ciro, his wife Sandra Guerrero, and his kids don’t live right there anymore. However he was the person who confirmed on the field what I had read in the books. Actually, Ciro was the first friend I made there.

As I also tell in the story, the first time I traveled to Huancabamba was in November 1995. It was a 9-hour journey that time. From this location, Huancabamba Main Square is 260 kilometers or 150 miles.

But I didn’t get there by tourism. I went as a researcher. When I studied Radio at Piura University, our professor assigned us to list all the radio stations  as possible across Piura Department. My work team had to research in Paita, Morropon, and Huancabamba Provinces.

We were Isela Arbulu, Susety Suing, and Veronica Malca, if my memory is good.

Paita is a coastal province, so the four went to it, we scanned the entire city. Morropon was our next target, so the four could cover its capital city, Chulucanas. The problem was Huancabamba.

The females didn’t want to go. So,they assigned me to do it. While they were covering Chulucanas, I was covering Huancabamba.

I knew that city as well as nearby Sondor. I was 19 years old.

My first surprise was both towns had short wave radio stations. In other episode, I’m gonna tell you about the fascinant SW world. At the moment, I’ll just say that before Internet, and amid the satellite era, there were radios broadcasting worldwide at low cost.

For that time, I learned about the Huancabamba Fault because the books I showed you the last episode. I wanted to know where it was. It was one of my questions to my friend Ciro that time.

He had no answer. Five years later, the fault was right in front of the house he lived. His parents house, by the way.

Since that time, I was travelling recurrently to Huancabamba, whether tourism or to cover a story. So I may say my connection with Huancabamba is so strong.

Curious fact: Sullana Province was created in 1911 because the advocacy of a congressman named Benjamin Huaman de los Heros. The issue here is Mr Huaman was not from Sullana but Huancabamba. As you know sullana is the province where is Sullana, the city from I webcast this to you.

Other geographic relevant. Chira River has three main tributaries.

Catamayo from Ecuador, Chipillico from sapillica, and Quiroz from Ayabaca and Huancabamba. Actually its further nascent is Laguna Negra in el Carmen de la Frontera, part of Huancabamba Province. And Chira River runs amid Sullana Province, my province.

So Sullana and Huancabamba are pretty connected, anyway. If you want to explore all that connection, go to factortierra.blogspot.com

Write Huancabamba Province in the query box. You also can follow #ComeToHuancabamba on Twitter for more information.

Just to close the Huancabamba stuff, for the story you can find on FACTORTIERRA, there were many people contributing. From Luis Correa, our co executive producer, to Arabella Carrasco, who helped me with the photo production. Arabella is from Huancabamba, actually. Also my friend Ciro is featured.

At least in Spanish, according to LinkedIn, the story was read in Piura, Chiclayo, and Lima, here in Peru. But also in Quito, Ecuador, and Barcelona, Spain. Thanks you all for the preference.

But still in Spanish, Radio Centinela transcript the text, share it on his Facebook page. I noticed people gave likes and shared three times. I also shared it on my Facebook account, @nelsonsullana. For the people who want to read the story in Spanish, go to eltiempo.pe

Oh, thanks angelo Basselli, in Lima City, who red the story and told me a beautiful related story. As he tell me more, I promise I’ll tell you more.

Finally, two tips for you.

On Monday, September 19th, La Palma Island is marking one year after a new volcano broke out at Cumbré Vieja Ridge. I never was in Canary Islands but I cover the full crisis.

If you want to get the full story, go to factortierra.blogspot.com. You can also follow @factortierra on Twitter. I don’t know what the local people is going to do, but maybe I’ll dedicate my full next episode to them. Let me know if you wish to.

And, from a volcanic land to another volcanic land. Mario Kanashiro is in Nagoya, Japan. He’s a fitness dance trainer. But he also is doing manga and animé as a hobby. We have the story in exclusive. Go to chulucanasgym.blogspot.com

. Follow it on Twitter as @chulucanasgym. It’s the top story right now.
