Not only has to be well fed and strong, must have a plan, a goal, and a touchable and positive result.
The communities are not static groups, they neither live from good intentions of their members. To hold on, they must have a source that allow them to assure their advance and next generations’. Many communities are built around common activities and values what many times have been inherited for generations not considering their real contribution and what way they are useful to assure their sustainability.
It’s
here when adopting development models
is spoken. Think of a person. Like any alive being, it’s not static but after
the birth, it passes through a growth-up eenand evolution process until it
finally dies. The key is what methods it adopts for growing up, evolving, and
transferring that knowledge to next generations for assuring length in time,
and those ones can improve.
The
communities work almost the same way, and that the development models are about – I mean schemes or patterns that
guarantee the growth and evolution of all that human group, what benefits for
equal and adopts use & habits that improve its relationship to the environment in every respect.
The
development models are not fit to the economic aspect but involve every aspect
of a community, from the political to
the daily passing by the educational to the most urgent basic needs. Reducing
development to economic growth is the cause of frustration and alienation in
many communities those become disintegrating and destroying their common ideal.
A
good development model must guarantee the growth-up of the community, generate
welfare, including every member around, and leaving the way ready for who are
upcoming to continue and improve taking the goald we have inherited them as a
starting point. However, there are other factors to consider about building
development models that pass by the common sense and the constant practice of democracy.
Sustainable
Development
When
a community adopts a development model must not fall into the short-term mistake.
The short-term solutions work a very few time and when they end, generally,
leave bigger problems to solve that many times there were not at the beginning
of intervention. The development models must bet the long-term and the maximum inclusion. In that sense, the sustainable
development conception must be constant at the time to set them.
The
philosophy of sustainable development can be resumed in building and evolving
for who will follow us to build and evolve over what we have advanced. If we
represent it graphically, it would seem a spiral that in its base is very
narrow, but as it goes ascending, it goes enlarging not losing firmness.
A
characteristic of sustainable development is the care of environment because
that feeds from it and it’s the ultimate legacy. So the impacts on that are
minimum or null. Remember we are talking about long-term, then what we could
call the big house is the first one
to prepserve, if not, where would you develop?
Freedom to choose
After
the communitarian consultations made in Peru, Argentina, and Guatemala, the
thesis of previous, free, and informed agreement began to be elaborated. Lawyer Julia Cuadros resumes it as “the
consultation process to the community based upon a wide and easily available
quality information which everybody has
access and about they take a decision without any kind of coertion.”
The
development models pass through this process. It’s not about what the most say
but wwhat the community consensus is. For reaching this
level, everybody will have to talk much each other upon an objective basis. The
diagnoses are the best documentarian tools to enrich this dialogue and improving
the decisions quality that may be one or many, but they never must discard the
quality issue because that wwill guarantee they work effectively.
Competitiveness
The
development models are competitive, in other words, they take an adequate
advantage of their resources with criteria of efficiency ( the less steps as
possible) and effectiveness (reaching to the goal). When the community
resources are optimized, it’s obtained as a result most productiveness as well
as quality improvement. Be aware about this word that will be the constant in
those processes.
The business consultant
Luis Ginocchio
states the competitive communities ghrow more and better than the productive
communities. He says that the difference is in the attitude their members adopt
about their development model. A first attitude is the constant search to know
and to assess that everybody to know. The idea with this knowledge is
practicing it constantly so the process improves and the risk to mistake
minimizes.
Think
of an athlete. He never will be
excellent in his discipline if he doesn’t know all the updated rules and
techniques, and trains with constance and discipline. Additionally, the
competitiveness also feeds with assertiveness, in other words, the frequent
intention to do right the processes, and to get them, you will need to be
competent – to know and to do right.
Having advantage
Up to
here, we have built a development model that works perfectly for our community
but it is not alone, it is related in an active or less active way to similar
others. These other communities also can adopt development models. Imagine they
are exactly the same than your community – wwhat must you do in this case? It simply must highlight you.
Every
community highlights for its comparative advantages – a very particular
characteristic inside others apparently equal. Think of the top cultures of
ancient times, and the reason why they are a study object today. Although they
seem to be similar aspects, you’ll ever find comparative advantages among each
other that were inclusive the key of
their survival in history. In fact, we still rule under the Sumerian and
Egyptian astronomical studies, we still philosophe Greek style, and many of our
social conventions are still based upon the Roman Laws. To talk about the
Peruvian case, the new agronomy is just a revival of the old Pre-Columbian
wisdom.
Then,
what will differentiate your community? Get back to your diagnose, look around
you, talk to the people. The most insignificant details may be the key at the
time to propose the change and propose the growth-up. And if your development
model is original, much better.
